Let's start from the beginning: Valalita lived with her remarkable maternal great-grandmother, great-aunt, and mother shortly after her birth. She spent twelve years of her life with these women in a Cuban and French Creole household just a block from the French Quarter. Surrounded by love and culture, Valalita was deeply influenced by her family. As time passed, her great-grandmother and great-aunt passed away. A few years later, Valalita's mother was diagnosed with colon cancer and also passed. Valalita believes that youth learn from what they hear, see, and experience. She learned from the women in her family, the word of God, and her faith. These loving women inspired Baobab's existence. Baobab remains a steadfast advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves.
